Cynthia Conlin, Esq.

Attorney Cynthia Conlin is the firm’s founder and lead attorney.  In 2010, after litigating at a downtown firm for three years, Cynthia Conlin founded the firm with a desire to serve clients on a more personal and direct level.

One reason Cynthia became an attorney was to help others

One of the things that drew Cynthia to practicing law was the desire to serve people. As a practicing attorney, Cynthia learned that the practice of law, stripped to its core, means helping people. She has found one of the most challenging, yet rewarding, aspects of being an attorney is balancing a client’s wants with what is in his or her best interest.

Cynthia’s other attraction to law was intellectual. Gifted with an uncanny ability to hyperfocus, Cynthia scrutinizes court opinions, treatises, statutes, and rules with passion.  Originally schooled in journalism, Cynthia parlays a finely tuned writing skill into drafting persuasive legal memoranda, motions, and other documents in both federal and state courts.

Cynthia has long held interests in areas copyright law, First Amendment, and defamation

Raised by a mother who was an artist, at an early age Cynthia learned to appreciate the visual arts. Before law school, Cynthia wore several hats, including journalist, graphic designer, publisher, and entrepreneur. She obtained a college degree in news journalism and wrote for such publications as the Orlando Sentinel and Orlando Weekly. She also learned the ins and outs of small business by running a small publishing, design, and CD-manufacturing company. The publishing industry spawned an interest in computers and technology, which she has continued.

Through these interests and experiences, Cynthia easily turned to the area of copyright law, which focuses on the protection of written and artistic content. Additionally, her experience in journalism and business and interests in technology piqued her interests in defamation, privacy, and First Amendment law. Combined with a love of computers and technology, it was only natural that Cynthia would be propelled into the area of Internet law.

In 2012, Cynthia became one of a small handful of Florida attorneys who defend “copyright troll” litigation, or lawsuits filed in mass against Internet accountholders for alleged unauthorized downloading of videos or other protected content via BitTorrent software. Cynthia has successfully defended dozens of “John Does” as well as named individuals in these cases, many of whom are simply victims of having an unprotected wi-fi.

Cynthia continues to represent individuals and small businesses in a variety of civil matters, including issues such as consumer protection, business litigation, and more.

Interests other than law

When she is not working on legal issues, she enjoys nature, hiking, developing artistic pursuits, and trying new activities. As a Toastmaster, she often used her legal and other interests to make compelling speeches. In 2018, she began learning Chinese. 你好。你好吗?
