Voltage Pictures files cases in Florida for “Maximum Conviction” downloads

Voltage Pictures, LLC recently filed a handful of cases in the Middle District of Florida for alleged downloading of the film Maximum Conviction. Subpoenas have been issued to ISPs and the “John Does” have begun receiving letters alerting them about the subpoenas.

I have not seen Maximum Conviction, so I searched for the trailer.  Steven Seagal plays a character who is “free after 6 years of prison” where he was, of course, “convicted for a crime he did not commit.”  You can imagine his anger.  Released with an award of $300,000 from the State (apparently in this film the criminal and civil courts have merged into one for cinematic effect), Mr. Seagal’s character says, “I want my life back!”  Upon release, “He finds what the Chinese maffia [sic] wants,” then “goes to war,” where we have a bunch of, well, typical Steven Seagal action.

If you’re thinking of downloading this film (or any other), please don’t; it’s not worth being sued and having to deal with a lawsuit. (Especially this film, which, from the looks of the trailer, appears sorely lacking.)

On the other hand, if you have received a letter, a subpoena, a summons, or anything else to that effect that pertains to this or a similar case – do not ignore it.  Feel free to give us a call at 407-965-5519 and we’ll try to help you figure out your best strategy of dealing with this.  As I’ve explained before, ignoring a lawsuit can result in a judgment against you.  You may have strong defenses available, but you have to raise them properly.

Case numbers (so far) are as follows:

  • Voltage Pictures, LLC v. Doe 6, 8:13-cv-01153 (Filed April 29, 2013)
  • Voltage Pictures, LLC v. Doe 135, 2:13-cv-00333 (Filed April 30, 2013)
